Updates since first prototype:
- Wand
- Added the ability to fire a projectile with Mouse1 (does not affect gameplay yet).
- Building
- You can now build towers onto the grid floor. Aim at the cell you wish to build on and click Mouse2 to build a basic tower. Towers will shoot at robots and do 5 damage. The towers can currently shoot at robots from any distance.
- Robots
- Added a very basic Robot AI to showcase the towers being able to fire at enemies. Robots will walk forwards in a straight line and that's about it. They have 100hp. Only 1 robot will spawn at a time. The player cannot lose yet.
- Map
- Remade the map to have a singular hallway with a 3x5 grid and an entrance for the robots.
- Movement
- Decreased the mouse sensitivity from 100 to 50
- Increased the gravity and decreased the jump height so that the movement feels less floaty.
This prototype is meant to showcase the basic core loop of the game which is building towers on a grid to defeat the approaching robots. Because I am still learning Unity, a lot of this prototype is just spaghetti code which will have to be rewritten. This also means that there are plenty of bugs. However, now that I have a greater knowledge of programming in Unity, the rest of game development will hopefully go a lot more smoothly. I have a plan to create a modular level system which will make designing the campaign fairly simple.
Timeline:
- 11/3 - Alpha V2 release. Code will be rewritten with a more modular system. Primary fire on the wand will work. Robots will have a proper AI and attack the towers. Nectar currency will be implemented. There will be 1 full level.
- 11/10 - Alpha V3 Release (Final). Will be feature complete but unpolished with some missing art. All levels will be playable. There will be a basic main menu and pause menu.
- 12/8 - Public Beta Release. The art, 10 campaign levels, and menus will all be complete. Sound effects and music will be added. The game will be fully polished and playtested by multiple people to fix bugs.
- 1/5 - Full Release. The campaign will be completed. There will hopefully be about 50 campaign levels with different locations and many more towers and robots. I am aiming the campaign to take at least 2 hours to complete. An endless mode will be added. There will be more accessibility options. If the game is successful on here, I want to eventually add it to Steam. The full release will cost about $10. The Beta will stay free.
